Hi. My name is Michael Sullivan, and I am privileged to serve as the pastor at Divine Word Lutheran Church. I don’t really like talking about myself but, since I was asked to give a little biography for those wondering “who this Sullivan guy is,” here I go:
I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but spent my childhood years growing up in Wetaskiwin, Alberta where my Dad served as a pastor. My Highschool years were spent in Germany and, when my parents were called to serve the Church in Novosibirsk, Russia, I moved back to the US for college and seminary. The LORD allowed me the blessing of visiting my parents during summer (and a few winter) breaks.
I served as a vicar (student pastor) at a German-English parish in Benton Harbor, Michigan. My first parish was in inner-city Milwaukee, Wisconsin at a place called Zebaoth. I served there for 8 years, after which I took an emergency call to Apostles Lutheran Church in Regina, Saskatchewan, where I served 2 ½ years. After that, I moved to the small community of Kewaunee, Wisconsin, where I served Immanuel Lutheran Church for almost 8 years.
I moved to Ottawa in January 2019 and have been serving as Divine Word’s Pastor since then. I am married and have 4 children (one boy and three girls). My wife was a schoolteacher but is currently homeschooling the girls and teaches English online.
While I do have the odd hobby (like roasting my own coffee on occasion, or enjoying time outdoors and playing games with my family) my greatest joy is Jesus: learning more about Him and sharing the good news of His saving love with others. My prayer is that the people I meet, meet Jesus instead of me. Why? Because only in Him do we find the forgiveness, hope, and salvation we so desperately need.
There you go: I’ve told you about myself and now, it’s your turn. Give me a call. I would love the opportunity to chat and learn more about you. I’ll even make the coffee!
In Christian love,
Pastor Michael Sullivan
